| 6th December 2004: Andy helps 'shed' Scouting's old image
Field Development Officer, Andy Shepherd, has been busy making headlines for Scouting - from his garden shed. Andy, who appeared in the Jobs and Money section of Saturday's Guardian, had the bright idea of inviting a journalist to inspect his unique working space in Bromsgrove. Leaving his home each day, Andy explains how he makes the
10ft commute to his 'shed office,' which he uses as his base to support
the growth and development of Scouting in Warwickshire, Herefordshire,
Worcestershire, Birmingham and the Welsh borders. He also introduced his
assistant - a loveable cat called Colin, who warms his seat while he makes
the tea. |

| 25th June 2004: Scout Hut Destroyed
by Fire
In
the early hours of Friday 25th June, in the wake of England’s
exit from football’s Euro2004 championships, the Scout Hut of the 1st
Barnt Green Scout Group was destroyed by fire. The initial assessment of
the Fire Brigade is that the fire may have been started deliberately. While the Group has put immediate plans into action with regard to section meetings, it will take some time and a considerable effort for the Group to recover. It is hoped that the Group will be able to raise sufficient funds to have a modern vandal-proof building built for this and future generations of Scouts, although this will come at a cost which the Group can not meet alone. In addition, the Group will also have to replace all of its equipment including tents, flags, tables and chairs, stoves etc. If
you are able to help in any way, either through donations of equipment,
building materials or funds, or at section meetings please contact us on:-

7th March 2004: District Cub Scout Uni-hock competition
On Sunday 7th March, over 60 Cub Scouts from Bromsgrove, Lickey, Hagley and Droitwich met for a 5-a-side uni-hock tournament at The Ryland Centre in Bromsgrove. With 12 teams participating the first round of matches were quick to get underway. After a thrilling “round robin” of matches, came the semi finals; 1st Lickey (A team) beat 1st Bromsgrove (B team) 3-2 on a golden goal. Hagley (B team) beat 3rd Droitwich (A team) 6-3. Lickey and Hagley then played an exciting final in which Lickey came from behind to win 3 goals to 2. This is the first time we have held a district uni-hock tournament, but given the support for it, it is likely to become a regular event. The boys had a thoroughly enjoyable day and are looking forward to the next district event. We hope to post some pictures on the website in the near future.
1st March 2004: New Scouting Website - Urban Outdoors
The great urban outdoors is not just about doing activities. It also provides opportunities for promoting Scouting and fundraising, and exploring some of the issues that touch young people. It also looks at Street entertainment, apart from developing personal and group skills within the weekly programme there is also a great opportunity to put on a display, or show, to really show-off one aspect of Scouting to the public. Visit the website at www.urbanoutdoors.org.uk and order a copy of the information pack.

This will be live until the 31 January 2004. It’s aimed at Leaders, Young Leaders and Members of the Scout Network working directly with the Programme and it should take you about 10 minutes to complete the questionnaire. HQ want to know what you think!
5th November 2003: District Carol Service
Tonight, Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scout and Explorer Scouts together with Leaders, parents and members of Scout Fellowships and Scout Network gathered in All Saints Church for Bromsgrove District Scouts' Carol Service. The service was presented by 4th Bromsgrove (Blackwell) Scouts and was a modern day version of the Nativity story - Jesus was born in a tent, The shepherds arrived on skate boards and the wise men communicated by mobile phone! The acting was interspersed with traditional carols, readings and prayers. The District Commissioner also presented several warrants for new leader and wood badges for those who had completed their leadership training. This year's two charities were Trauma Teddies (Teddy bears carried by the fire service to give to distressed children who have been rescued) and the Blue Cross Animal Sanctuary. The animal sanctuary received gifts of dog and cat food to help them through Christmas - one of their busiest times of the year. The collection was shared between the Trauma Teddies and All Saints Church.

Today (6th November), 13 Beaver Scouts and 4 new Beaver Scout Leaders held their first meeting at 1st Lickey Scout Scout HQ. The colony has re-opened after closing several years due to a shortage of leaders. The new colony has been started with the help of the Group Scout Leader and Cub Scout Leader, but the new Beaver Scout Leaders will take on full responsibility for the Beavers in January. 1st Lickey Scout Group is one of the oldest Scout Groups in the country, as such it's members are proud to wear a 'scout green' neckerchief. The group already has a Cub Scout Pack and Scout Troop and previously also had the largest Venture Scout Unit in the County.
